Bridges 'Oude Gracht' Utrecht | The Netherlands (2008)

Utrecht originates from a roman castellum: 'Trajectum'. This fortress was located on the northern border of the Roman Empire, which was formed on this site by the Old Rhine. As a result of silting up, this old river branch was disused as a river and partly degenerated into the Oude Gracht. To refer to this origin of this moat, we want to simulate the flow of (river) water by illuminating the bridge arches with alternating blue and white light running under the bridges.
