Chandelier '1:1001' Kerkrade | The Netherlands (2007)
The light sculpture in the lobby of Kerkrade's town hall is a spatial representation of the city's floor plan. Abstract lines of different colours depict the perimeter of the city, neighbourhoods and woodlands and the course of waterways, streets and railway tracks. The spatial configuration of this plan forms an anamorphosis; a spatial construction in which a recognizable image is only recognizable from one point of view. In this case this is the position of the town hall, which is indicated by a vertical bar running through all the horizontal layers of the city.
