On the southern banks of the Hollandsche IJssel, near Gouda, lies the grounds of GOUDasfalt, situated on the former Koudasfaltcentrale KWS site. The factory was shut down in 2013 and dismantled in 2016. Nearly the entire facility was removed during the demolition, except for a few buildings, two sand hoppers, a conveyor belt, and a pivoting arm known as the ‘Lange Arm’. Since 2016, the area has been transformed into a robust and vibrant urban waterfront, hosting various artisanal businesses, a city beach with dining options, sports, yoga, and scouting activities. The site is also utilized for numerous events. The ‘Lange Arm’ serves as a distinctive feature of the terrain. Within the site itself, it acts as the connecting element. Wherever you are, the ‘Lange Arm’ serves as a reminder of the history of this place. It is a splendid object that deserves to be illuminated down to its finest details.
