Street 'Grote Marktstraat' Den Haag | The Netherlands (2015)

The Grote Marktstraat is one of the most important shopping streets in The Hague. The street has been transformed into a boulevard with international allure in 2015. According to the 'ballroom for the city' concept, sixty small 'chandeliers' have been hung above the street via tension cables. These give structure to the space and emphasize the direction of the street. In addition to functional lighting in the underside of drop-shaped steel baskets, the baskets themselves are also illuminated from the inside by integrated LED lighting. Each illuminated basket can be controlled individually from a central computer, so that together they form a large light sculpture above the shopping street and make shopping even more festive.
